BLACKMORE TIES THE
KNOT*
|
|

|
After nineteen years together Ritchie Blackmore is finally going to tie the knot
with his partner Candice Night. As reported elsewhere on the Internet they
will wed in October in New York
State.
This will be Blackmore's fourth marriage, but he still has some way to go to out
do the medieval theme set by King Henry VIII, who incidentally, apparently wrote
one of Blackmore's favourite tunes Greensleeves!

Planet Rock is currently running a poll to see what
fans think Led Zep should play as opener, middle of the set song and
encore number at the forthcoming over-hyped Zeppelin reunion
gig.
Many Purple fans fail to see why Zep are so highly praised by both
Planet Rock and Classic Rock and for a laugh we have already had some
Purple fans cast votes for Highway Star, Child In Time and Speed King!
If you want to join in the fun why not vote for the same three choices.
We reckon it would be hilarious trying to see Page and Plant tackle
those songs! Just follow the link here

SECOND SERIES!
|
 |
The first episode of the second series of Steve Coogan's comedy Saxondale
has several mentions of Deep Purple, and one specific one about a new
four-piece band put together by Jon Lord! Coogan plays the character Tommy
Saxondale, a former roadie who now works for a pest control company. Hillarious
stuff, especially for anyone in the business! Essential viewing!
Clearly Coogan is a huge fan of seventies rock. If MBTP can get an interview
with him, the news will be posted here first!

Musicians are welcome and Mick Richardson who played with Tony in Black
August and Nick Simper in Dynamite is organising the itinerary.
Mick's telephone number appears on the poster.

GERMAN
TOUR ENDS WITH DEPARTURE
|
|
Hot off the press comes the news that backing
vocalists Sisters Of The Moon have quit the band at the end of the
current German Tour. Allegedly due to some dispute over their own CDs
being sold with the merchandise. Evidently this has had a knock on
effect with regard to the forthcoming DVD release, which has now been
put back to October, because they plan on making some new promo
videos to accompany it. Apparently new backing singer or singers have
already been lined-up.

Ritchie's former sixties band mate,
Tony Dangerfield was found dead at his home on Saturday (21st July).
Tony was one of the many faces I interviewed for the book and we kept in
touch ever since. His new album has recently been released and was
reviewed in MBTP 33.
Called 'The Rebel's Got Soul' it perfectly summed Tony up. He had just
been barred from his local pub where he has been going for decades,
because he refused to take any notice of the new smoking
bans!
A rebel to the end, he will be missed by all those who knew
him.
Tony's funeral takes place at Hendon Cemetery and Crematorium, Holders Hill Road, London NW7 1NB,
Tuesday 31st July. All friends and associates are welcome. It starts at 3.15 although people
should arrive by 3.00pm.

Following the one day strike on 29th June, the nice British Postal workers
had another one day strike on Friday 13th July. If you ordered anything

Needless to say this is beyond our control, and any frustrations should
be vented towards the strikers and not us!

I DVD RELEASE
|
|
The entire broadcast of Deep Purple
MKI on Hugh Hefner's Playboy After Dark is now, for the first time,
officially released on DVD, titled Playboy After Dark, Collection Two.
Rami Mähkä recently got this and
says, "While some other artists had two tracks (artists usually did two numbers in a show), DP only had one: Hush. I was afraid of the worst! But I just hit Hush, and then, fingers crossed,
rewinded... and it was all there! It's thrilling, it's brilliant! The band do a short version of And the Address (check out Rod's dance moves!), then a nervous RB gives Hugh
(Hefner) a guitar lesson, and the latter then does a short interview with a notably cool
Lordy. The band then do (the previously released) Hush. The coolest DP archive clip for a long, long time!"
It's worth pointing out that this is a box set with 6 hours of stuff
from the show, and Purple's bit is only a few minutes long. I'm sure it
will appear on a proper Purple compilation in the future, so unless you
need this now, it might be worth to wait a while.
Thanks to Rami Mähkä for the info.

DEEP PURPLE
|
ON THE
BEEB!
|
|

|
A new series called Seven Ages of Rock started on BBC 2, Saturday May
19th.
The fourth one in the series was broadcast the weekend of 10th June, entitled Never Say Die.
It centred around the most controversial and misunderstood of all rock
genres- heavy rock. With Black Sabbath as the undisputed Godfathers. The
show also included Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and
Metallica, but was rather perfunctory. How many people watching
didn't know the Smoke On The Water story? And if they didn't then in my
view they would be better off sticking with Eastenders!

BLACKMORE'S

UK
GIG
|
|
It has just come to our attention that Blackmore's Night will no longer be performing at
the 3 Wishes Faery Fest on Sat 23rd June 2007 at Colliford Lake Park, Bolventor, Bodmin Moor, Cornwall, UK.
No doubt some of Ritchie's fans will be relieved, while others who had
already ordered tickets will be disappointed. The reasons have not been
explained but one fan who enquired about tickets was told by the
festival organiser Karen Kay; "I have literally just been informed by Carole Stevens, the manager of Blackmore's Night that they will no longer be performing at the festival, which is very disappointing indeed."
Maybe the thought of possibly wearing faery wings on stage was too much
for Mr. B!
We understand that other UK dates will be announced soon.
Thanks to Pete Lewis for the info.

NOT QUITE YET!
|
|
Recently on Nicky Horne's show on Planet Rock
Radio, David Coverdale played down the possibilities of a reunion of the

partly as a result on Coverdale recently signing to the same label as
Ritchie. He said he is happy with his career as it is, and thought
Ritchie felt the same way.

BIOGRAPHY
|
|
Apart from Black Knight the
unauthorised biography written by Jerry
Bloom published by Omnibus Press on 4th September,
former Deep Purple and Rainbow tour manager Colin Hart has written a
book and is currently negotiating publishing deals. There is also
supposed to be at least one other book on Blackmore being
written.
It has also recently been announced that Ritchie is participating with
"Doc Calvinson" on a book. An official statement from Minstrel Hall music
said: "Candice and Ritchie have authorized Doc Calvinson to write their stories. It will be The musical history of Ritchie Blackmore-past and present - as well as their own biographical account of Blackmore's Night. This book will be accurate as they are participating in the authoring. If you want to read the true story this will be the one to
read." Make of that what you will! Whether or not it is
Ritchie's response to the other books currently in the pipeline is at
this stage unclear.

Ritchie, Carlo & Rick Brown in 1962
© Neil Newsome |
The night of honour at Clarendon Hall, York House,
Twickenham to celebrate the life of the late Carlo Little who passed away last
August was a great success. All proceeds from this event were donated to the South Tyneside Hospital, Ward 10 for terminally ill patients where Carlo spent his last weeks.
And a fair amount of money was raised. During the auction one
guy paid £950 for a fully signed Rolling Stones 2006 tour T-shirt! I
pulled out of the bidding at £900 when I realised it wasn't my size!

Ritchie featured on the front cover of the March issue of Classic Rock,

Are daggers drawn? Read what Pete Makowski has to say
about Blackmore's Night. MBTP31 will look at the response to the
article with Makowski's response to the criticism as well.
